Walk and Roll to School Day: Every day's a great day to walk, bike, or roll to school, but Wednesday, October 7th will be especially great! Be sure to stop by the Grout PTA Walk and Roll table near the back entrance for treats, prizes, and a whole lot of bubbles. Be sure to tell us how you get to Grout--we love to hear it! 

Dine Out at Dairy Hill: All day October 7, Dairy Hill will donate 10% of sales from their Hawthorne location to Grout. Dine outs are such a fun opportunity to get out, meet up with friends and bump into classmates. Eat ice cream and help fund our school!

Eco-School Network: If you’d like to help Grout become healthier and greener, read on! The Eco-School Network’s free four-session training prepares you to carry out a passion project that meets a need at your school while helping kids practice sustainability. Projects include school gardens, food waste composting, recycling/reuse collections, student green teams, and other initiatives. Want to learn more? Join an online info session on October 9 at noon. Oregon Battle of the Books: Attention all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade families - The Oregon Battle of the Books (AKA OBOB)  season is starting with a kickoff party and information session. This is a great chance to learn more about the program and form teams. Every student who attends will be entered into a free raffle to win OBOB books. Join us in the Grout Auditorium on Thurs. Oct. 15 at 6pm.

• 10/07 - Dine Out at Dairy Hill (10% of sales go to Grout PTA)

• 10/21 - Dine Out at Rocio’s (15% of sales go to Grout PTA)

• 10/27 - Bingo Night at Gigantic Brewing (21+ Ages 21 and up event) 

Transit to Trails Hike with Cleveland High School: Saturday, October 24, 10am-2pm. Team up with Cleveland High School students for a Tri-Met powered hiking adventure to Marquam Nature Park. 4 miles, moderate hills. End with a ride on the Aerial Tram. Meet on the front steps of Grout at 10am. Dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes. Bring a way to pay for the bus (credit card, ApplePay, or exact cash), water and a lunch. Garden Volunteers: Did you know our beautiful school garden is also a classroom? Students visit the garden once a month, usually on a Wednesday, and learn from our Grow Portland garden educator. We're hoping to find a few more volunteers to support this program.You do not need to commit to coming every month -- whenever you have availability is great! You must complete your PPS background check before joining the garden classroom. Please reach out to Sophia Smith- Garden Educator, sophia@growportland.org for more information.
